Port of Eden.
The Port of Eden is the most southern declared Port in NSW, and services the south coast
of NSW, including the towns of Bega, Merimbula, Bombala and Cooma.
The Port is home to one of the largest fishing fleets in NSW, and also has significant capacity
to service the needs of a variety of importers and exporters.

Export of woodchips is currently the major trade for the port with approximately 954,000 tonnes exported last year by South East Fibre Exports Pty Ltd. This is supplemented by exports of softwood logs and general cargo from the multipurpose wharf, which was commissioned in late 2003. The multi-purpose wharf has a length of 200 metres and approximately 6,000 square metres of paved storage area. It is capable of handling vessels of up to 32,000 dead weight tonnes and the depth alongside is 12.0 metres at datum. Ship's cargo gear is normally employed, although mobile cranes of up to 50 tonnes capacity are available with sufficient notice. The wharf is shared with the Department of Defence, and since its completion, has handled not only Warship visits, but Logging and Cruise Ships. To facilitate trade through the Multi Purpose Wharf, NSW Maritime has developed an 8 hectare cargo storage facility approximately 300 metres from the wharf. Does Solar Power Work?

Author: Richie Vee / Category: home improvements

Many times an appreciation for a technology is all that it takes for someone to warm up to it. So if you know how solar power works, you are better positioned to accept it as a potential solution for your home power needs. In the past decade, the photovoltaic cells have become one of the most popular products in the market. One of the big reasons for that is the boost the government has given the technology through incentives. These cells are not cheap and with many manufacturers in the market you need to become knowledgeable about these products. You need to be smart enough to pick the right products and solutions.

The sun as we see it today, is one of the largest nuclear reactors known to man. The reactions within the sun continue to produce energy in the form of light. Light consists of photons which are characterised by two factors: wavelength and frequency. The wavelength of a photon is the distance between two photons in the same phase of motion and the frequency is the rate at which the photons change their phases.

Why are we talking about wavelengths for solar power? Well because the wavelength at which the solar equipment works is vital to judge how effective it would be. The sun’s light consists of many color frequencies. We can see some and we can’t see the others. Incidentally, the sun’s radiation contain more infra-red radiation than the visible light ones. So solar equipment that works under infra-red light absorbs more energy. Another concept is the light absorption. Anything that seems to have a color actually absorbs light from all other color wavelengths except its color – which it reflects back and hence we see it. Anything that looks black absorbs all the light, hence black solar equipment works better than colored ones.

Here is some mind boggling statistics for you – the total radiation from the sun that falls on the earth every day is 35000 times more than what we need for all our use. Imagine the gross waste of this abundant and clean energy source. In fact, if we can tap 6 kWh of sunlight from a 5 sq. meter area per day, we can power a house for that day. So the catch here is to capture maximum sunlight. The interaction between the photovoltaic cell components and the sunlight is vital in achieving this. There is an an interesting article on the site EzineArticles about portable solar power. Go there for more info.

At this point it is also interesting to understand the idea of passing radiation. We have seen how certain objects can absorb light and some that can reflect certain wavelengths. Some materials like the glass can actually let the radiation pass through them. These materials are used as solar collectors, because they pass the light radiations and insulate the unit from the heat protecting the PVs in the assembly. Mediums that do not absorb or reflect the entire light, but let some pass through them are called filters. The filter coating that we cover our home windows with is a good example. Similarly, we have several sunglasses with UV filters – these glasses do not allow UV rays to pass, but let other light wavelengths to pass. Filters are vital in the glazing for solar equipment. Glazing is the term used for materials that cover the solar equipment and let the light pass through. With the right filters the most energetic light rays can be passed while the rest are filtered out for very efficient performance. We know that the infra-red range is the best to tap solar energy so the glazing needs to filter out the rest of the light.

So there are three characteristics of any material: filtering, absorbing and reflecting. Even the windows made from glass that are supposed to pass white light do not do so completely; they actually pass just 85% of the light and rest is lost or filtered. Another common filter is our atmosphere. During dawn and dusk the sun’s rays travel further in the atmosphere and hence they are not that strong or bright. At noon, with sun directly overhead, the light travels perpendicular to the atmosphere so it traverses shorter distances this means it gets filtered less and hence is more powerful.

The same idea holds true for summers and winters as well. During summer more of the sun’s light reaches the earth surface as compared to winters. As a result, more sunlight is reflected and absorbed in summer. Absorption of photons releases energy in the form of heat and this heat warms the air. This why summers are hotter and winters are cooler. In fact, heat is nothing but a function of motion. When a surface absorbs energy its molecules start to vibrate and this generates heat. Thus when solar energy strikes the surface it causes the molecules to vibrate releasing heat energy. These are some of the basic aspects of solar energy that you must be aware of. Understanding these concepts will aid you in understanding how solar power equipment works.

With a lot of people experimenting with DIY Solar Panels these days, I figured it might be a good idea to take a look at the advantages and disadvantages that can be reaped by building your own solar panels.

The top reasons to build your own solar panels include:

1. Financial Savings:

You stand to save substantial amounts of money, thousands of dollars in fact by building your own panels. This is due in the main to the cost of having a commercial system installed, this cost can run into the many thousands of dollars. Building your own solar panels on the other hand will cost you a mere couple of hundred dollars.

Solar Panels are extremely easy to look after, you just need to give them a clean from time to time to remove any bird droppings or leaves that may find their way onto your panels surface.

Free power! Using solar power as you energy choice you will cut your electricity bill by a substantial, if your family home is anything like mine you can expect to save hundreds of dollars per annum.

You can also sell any excess power that you no longer require back to the power company.

2. Help out mother nature:

Solar Energy is an extremely clean form of energy. There are no harmful emissions that are given off during the collection, production or consumption of solar power.

The energy source is renewable energy, as long as the sun shines brightly above us, there will be an endless source of solar energy just waiting to be used.

3. Stick to the man!

Move toward independent sustainability by building you own solar power system. No longer will you be tied to the grid, subject to government regulations or charges. You can also get away from it all by building small panels to power appliances in areas where conventional power is unavailable (i.e. a campsite).

So as we can see there are a large number of advantages and disadvantages when it comes to solar power, although I’m sure you will agree, the benefits far out way the negatives.

What Is The Initial Solar Energy Cost?

Author: eden real estate admin / Category: home

Solar power appears costly for some people or simply not actually worth the cost of putting up the materials for changing the house into a solar power house. The property of it really is that solar power cost could be high at first but the advantages outweigh it. Having a home that draws power from solar power may need a massive quantity of energy collectors but it gives the people autonomy form normal sources of power like fossil fuel and electricity. Other advantages of that will help someone overlook the original solar electricity cost are the impact of using solar power on the environment and the effect on one’s wallet after the first solar power cost is done with. These benefits outweigh the opening solar electricity value of putting up solar collectors and panel sin the home.

Technically, many professionals believe that solar power cost could be around $20,000 for a system that will comfy power a typical sized home. This comprises the general appliances that are obligatory for living nicely ,eg lights, PCs, chillers and TV sets. Solar power price of transportable power sources might be around $800 or more, depending on the capacity of the generator.

Heaters and other heating systems may need another power source than what’s quoted above. The price of getting a heater active for the water is about $5000. The pricetag may appear terribly high but the actuality of it actually is the solar power value of installation and using it is relatively low than employing a grid system or fossil fuel system that wounds the environment and the people.

Solar Panels And System

The process of collecting energy from the sun is quite a complicated one from the point of view of a person with no knowledge of solar energy. The cost of the solar energy equipment is in itself quite expensive without the solar energy cost of installation and paperwork that need to be done. Solar energy cost is not limited to the equipment itself but also in the implementation of the equipment. Older Houses which are not designed for much improvement with regards to solar energy may cost more to renovate to accommodate the solar collectors than newer homes.

Solar energy cost is high due principally to limited resources of the kit and the cost of getting a permit for the installation of the system. Another factor which adds to the high solar power cost is the undeniable fact that there are lots of people who benefit from fossil fuel and is the reason why a large amount of these people are against the utilization of alternative forms of energy.
