to service the needs of a variety of importers and exporters.

Export of woodchips is currently the major trade for the port with approximately 954,000 tonnes exported last year by South East Fibre Exports Pty Ltd. This is supplemented by exports of softwood logs and general cargo from the multipurpose wharf, which was commissioned in late 2003. The multi-purpose wharf has a length of 200 metres and approximately 6,000 square metres of paved storage area. It is capable of handling vessels of up to 32,000 dead weight tonnes and the depth alongside is 12.0 metres at datum. Ship's cargo gear is normally employed, although mobile cranes of up to 50 tonnes capacity are available with sufficient notice. The wharf is shared with the Department of Defence, and since its completion, has handled not only Warship visits, but Logging and Cruise Ships. To facilitate trade through the Multi Purpose Wharf, NSW Maritime has developed an 8 hectare cargo storage facility approximately 300 metres from the wharf. Ecofriendly Design & Construction: Improving Home Design

Author: eden real estate admin / Category: garden

The way that buildings are designed and constructed has much to do with how much water and energy they use. Thus, utilizing ecofriendly design & construction can minimize a house’s effect on the environment and can make it eco-friendly. Designing homes to be sustainable can significantly help the environment. Proper architectural drawings are needed.

The way that a building is shaded can significantly affect its energy usage. If a house is faced north, it can have maximum shading during summer and more sunlight during winter. Also, utilizing shades over windows can help keep heat and glare from coming into a home. This can reduce the energy used for heating and cooling a house, as the home will have a more stable temperature. Drafting can help reduce temperatures during summer.

If you use solar panels for your home’s energy source you can significantly reduce your impact on the environment. Solar power does not create harmful emissions and it is entirely sustainable. There are ways to utilize both solar power and other forms of energy so that a home has power throughout the year.

New heat-trapping windows can prevent heat from getting into or out of a building. These windows use a new type of glazing that, like shading, can reduce the heat of a house during summer and increase it during winter. When sealed, the windows can reduce energy costs because the home stays at a more stable temperature so that the air conditioning and heater do not need to be used as much.

Every eco-friendly building should have water-efficient appliances. While these appliances have been somewhat faulty in the past, they are now much more effective. Today water-efficient shower heads work very well and provide good water pressure, and low gallon-per-flush toilets do not have to be flushed twice, as they did in the past.

In a house, insulation serves a purpose similar to heat-trapping windows. It keeps a house warm in the winter and cool in the summer by keeping outdoor weather from seeping into the house. Without insulation a home is prone to the elements, which can significantly drive up energy costs for heating and cooling. Thus, insulation is a great investment for an eco-friendly development.

For landscaping, xeriscaping should be used in order to have an environmentally-friendly landscape. Xeriscaping is a type of landscaping that uses plants that are native to the region, and thus these plants fit naturally in the garden. However, the most important thing about plants used for xeriscaping is that they do not need too much water. Lawns are not generally found in these gardens because lawns drink up so much water. For the eco-friendly homeowner who desperately wants a lawn, native grasses are a more appropriate choice.

Finally, if you garden a lot, a great investment would be a rainwater harvesting tank. These tanks capture rainwater and then let you use it for landscaping. Because rainwater is perfectly fine for gardening, rainwater that is captured can be used in place of hose water, which will save a significant amount of water. Once the system is paid for, the tank provides a free source of water that is also very convenient for the landscaper.
