Looking for free software to use to make index cards with text labels for keywords?
I have hundreds of cards with ideas for a book text. Each card contains the best 3 to 10 lines of text. Each card has a number of keywords (such as text can be relevant in many different chapters.) For example, a "Give your colleague a hug", keywords could be "physical", "kinetic", "sexual." What I need is some software where you can place the entire text and associated keywords and then perform a search by keyword to bring the letters of reference. Be this could be done in Excel, but would be complicated and I prefer to use some free software and designed for this purpose. Any suggestions? Thank you very much! Thanks T John for your reply. I should add that the software NOT need to be able to manage keywords, and keywords * not * in the text (which are more like categories abstract). It is likely that any database program will do decent. You really do not need to worry about the indexing of keywords, since a good search routine should be able to read all records of the words you need. Databases usually have data and text fields. FieldA Data are easier to search, but have limited to 255 characters. Text fields can often contain whole pages of text, but require a special search routine. I have not been involved in databases data for years, but a program like Filemaker definitely do the job. is not free. If you're doing on the Internet, there are dozens programs in different http://www.hotscripts.com ypu could scan each card and use optical character reader OCR program that came with your scanner to save lot of writing.
