Comprehending The Art Of The Bonsai Tree

Posted by: eden real estate admin / Category: garden

For the Japanese, bonsai represents a fusion between their ancestors’ power and eastern philosophy of harmony between people, soul and nature. It must be mentioned that bonsai trees are not plants, being appreciated as a form of art.

For Japanese people, bonsai trees represent a deep connection between the ideals on which the society is based. Zen Buddhism originally believed that man, nature, elements and changes are all concentrated in this form of expression and meditation.

Nowadays bonsai is seen as a hobby which allows a better understanding of the communion with nature and also a special way to decorate our house and garden. Bonsai is an entity in itself, being part of Mother Nature at the same time. This phenomenon is best described by the phrase “heaven and earth into a pot”.

The age and beauty of bonsai are highly appreciated worldwide. This spectacular tree has more than an aesthetic role, expressing the personality of those who take care of it. If you decided to grow a bonsai, keep in mind that it requires special conditions in order to have a longer life.

As we said before, most bonsai trees represent symbols. For example, in China, it is popular to grow bonsai that have various shapes (animals, dragons, fantastic landscapes). Despite this fact, bonsai must have a natural appearance.

Unlike regular indoor plants, bonsai needs an easily drained ground, because its roots mustn’t stay in the water. Sunlight, particularly ultraviolet rays, affects tree growth. Excepting some particular cases, bonsai trees should be placed in a sunny area. Keep them away from excessive warmth and sea breeze and avoid placing the pot on cement or near a wall made of cement.

There are many different styles of bonsai. Bonsai artists gradually began to add other important cultural elements to these miniaturized landscapes. Japanese masters invited us to create new styles and forms inspired by nature. We mustn’t limit ourselves to a few styles, repeating them indefinitely, but to develop our creativity.

Bonsai has many elements that enhance its spectacular appearance. We must understand that bonsai accessories and the way in which it is arranged in the pot are part of bonsai art; we must appreciate them as a whole, and not as separate elements.

To create a special effect, it’s recommended to find ornamental stones that are in harmony with the structure and color of bonsai. The stones used to decorate the bonsai must be chosen carefully, depending on their shape, color and texture. For example, black and gray stones give a special note.
